Grau - Piura, Peru (1 of 3 posts)

Flew back to Piura and presented at the Grau Allianza church. We had 50 women and men. They filled the room.
I started out the teaching, sharing my story rope. Our friend Brenda translated. Then they made their story ropes.

April 2012 Nairobi, Kenya. (2 of 2 posts) It went from “We don’t tell our stories” to talking about their stories as they sat making their ropes to everyone wanting to share their story in front of the group! Finally this comment from one of these women after the story rope experience, “I was forever changed.”
Lori Duncan is back in Nairobi as I post this. Today her first photos are coming over Facebook of this years group sharing their story ropes!

NAIROBI, KENYA We Don't Tell Our Stories
Women's Leadership
Conference
Nairobi, Kenya April 2012

It was a year ago...that Lori Duncan came over to my
studio to learn how to make a story rope.
I messaged her weeks before on FaceBook that I
would be happy to teach her how to make a story rope before she left for
Nairobi.
She contacted a day or two before departure,
thinking it was probably too late.
But no it was not too late! In fact I even had leftover story rope - making
materials from a recent to Africa that I would happy to give to her to use.
Lori came and we went over how to make a story
rope. I told her that the secret was for those teaching to be transparent when
sharing their own stories. Women in the west are perceived to have it all
together-no issues, problems, struggles. Life is good. She responded that
each of them were ready to be
transparent with their own stories.
When Lori and her friends arrived in Kenya, they
shared what they were planning to do with the story rope. The reaction was. “We don’t do that
here. We don’t tell our stories.”
To be continued.

3 DAYS AT MIRAFLORES
Miraflores – Lima, Peru February 18-20, 2013 (1 of 4) We flew back to Lima from Piura to do 6 Story Rope workshops in Miraflores. Here we are in the café at the church. * On the right is Betty, Pastor of Women. What a great leader, deflecting any praise to God and the team people she led. It was such an outstanding experience working with such high quality people on this trip. All the meetings were held in this room with plenty of room for presenting and creating around the tables. Attendees were leaders representing leaders from different ministries at the church. (*Isabel at left - missionary to España) |
